Before: Multiple Variations

Black & white, static graphics used in SEI's Photovoltaics : Design and Installation Manual. A grid tied, photovoltaic system with battery back up is complex, with mutiple routes and controls in place to handle the flow of energy. While the above static graphics are correct, it only demonstrates one basic situation, without showing how various scenarios affect the system. From one concept, mutiple learning situations can arise, and several "what if" questions can be answered with animation that might otherwise be left unknown with static graphics as pictured above.

After: Multiple Variations

Instead of dry, static images that leave much for the viewer to figure out for themselves, color and motion bring a deeper and more complete understanding of the information being conveyed. This sample started with a simple concept and elaborates on it to show various scenarios. By showing multiple "what if" situations, students gain a better grasp of overall design and how variables affect systems. This graphic can easily be displayed online, via an instructor's laptop in class, or incorporated into a CD-ROM.
